Having a weave doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of your hair. Quite the contrary! Taking care of your extensions and your natural hair is essential before, during and after your weave. So here are a few tips to help you live your weave day after day in the easiest way possible, with the certainty of always having radiant hair!
After installing your weave, you’ll need to wash your hair. That’s right! It may seem obvious, but some people tend to think that, because it’s not their “real” hair, they’re exempt from shampooing and maintenance. But no! Amyra Paris weaves, for example, are made with real hair (Remy Hair), so they need to be washed regularly. Not to mention your own hair and scalp, which will always need looking after. The right rhythm? Once a week, for healthy hair and healthy extensions. The key word when shampooing? Delicacy! To achieve this, you need to shampoo gently, preferably with moisturizing (or nourishing, depending on the nature of your hair) warm water and a minimum of product (one capful maximum), taking care to wash not only your weave, but also the hair underneath.

Rather than rubbing, massage the product into your hair, first on the scalp, then on the lengths, to avoid damaging or breaking the hair. Rinse with cold water (lukewarm, if you can’t stand cold water, but not too hot) from top to bottom, to rinse the product thoroughly. Don’t hesitate to rinse several times, until you’re sure there’s not a drop of shampoo left on your hair. Once the product is completely removed, move on to the conditioner, applying the same technique and, above all, the same delicacy! To make application easier, use a spray conditioner and ensure that the product also penetrates the hair below the weave. Leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes, to allow the product time to penetrate and work. Rinse with cold or lukewarm water.
It’s very important to dry your hair thoroughly. Your extensions, of course, but also your real hair underneath, otherwise you’ll end up with unpleasant odors and itching! Before drying, start by detangling with your fingers, starting with the ends. Then finish detangling with a wide-tooth comb. Air-drying is highly recommended. But if you can’t stand to keep your hair damp for too long, here’s the technique: first dry gently, using a soft towel, then finish with a blow-dryer, on low heat (no more than 130°C), keeping it at a safe distance from your head, and having applied a heat protector beforehand (a serum, for example). Step 3: styling Now that your hair is completely dry, it’s time to style it! First and foremost, remember not to pull too hard on the hair, to avoid damaging it (this also applies when you don’t have extensions). So it’s best to use a soft brush. Would you like a blow-dry? Curl or straighten your hair? No problem! Just apply a heat-protecting serum beforehand, and don’t exceed a temperature of 200°C for your heating appliances. When we say you can do it all with a weave…
During the night, it’s also important to remember to protect your weave. Rubbing against the cotton of your pillowcase can lead to breakage… So tie your hair up tightly (in braids, for example) and protect it with a silk or satin scarf to avoid rubbing…
It’s really very easy, as you’ll see! In the morning, after removing your scarf, untie your hair and detangle it, always gently. If you tend to have dry hair, don’t hesitate to apply a moisturizing serum once a week. In the evening, detangle once again, tie up your hair and put your protective scarf back on! It’s so easy!
Planning to go on vacation this summer? Don’t panic! If you’re spending the vacations by the sea (or the ocean), don’t forget to take good care of your extensions. Here are a few precautions to take before heading off to the beach: apply an oil to the lengths to protect them from the aggression of the sun and salt (or chlorine, if you’re going to the pool). After taking a dip, rinse your hair as soon as possible with clear water. Once you’re back from the beach, shampoo your hair (following steps 1 and 2) to cleanse and moisturize it, which it will definitely need after a day in the sun!
That’s all! Very little change from a natural hair routine, after all! Weaves can be kept for up to two months. Leave your scalp and hair to rest for at least ten days before applying extensions again. Take advantage of this time to pamper your hair and apply restorative treatments. You can then have the same weave applied again. With regular maintenance, your Amyra Paris extensions can be used on several hairstyles, for… 3 years! That’s why it’s so important to take good care of them! And don’t hesitate to visit our “Care” section to discover the products recommended by Amyra Paris! Do you have any extra tips?
