Wearing braids with or without additions is very pretty. We don’t have to manipulate our hair for a while, and it can rest. But that’s not all. We must continue to maintain our hair to avoid breakage and hair loss after the braids or additions have been removed.
After you’ve applied the additions, lightly mist your style with water to relax the scalp and moisturize it at the same time. Don’t get too wet, though, to avoid damaging the style. The routine will be different from the general routine. You’ll continue to moisturize and nourish your hair throughout the styling process.

It couldn’t be more practical to moisturize your hair with a moisturizing spray. This way, the spray and its droplets will reach the difficult corners of the hair and scalp. Spray only the scalp and lengths of your own hair as you lift it up – there’s no need to spray the lengths of additions. A ready-to-use moisturizing spray or, for homemade addicts, a mineral water spray with the addition of one or two plant oils of your choice. For ready-to-use products, choose a moisturizing spray containing water (aqua, water). Spray at a certain height from the scalp to avoid over-wetting the hair and damaging your style. How often? For example, once every two days, in the morning and/or evening.
We’ll continue to seal in moisture as usual. After moisturizing the hair and scalp with a spray, separate the hair into sections, then apply a cream, butter or oil to the lengths of your own hair and the excess left on your hands, smooth over the rest of the additions.
And alternately, using an oil applicator bottle with a pointed tip for ease, apply a vegetable oil of your choice to the scalp, section by section. Avoid applying every day, as this could lead to itching. Then massage the oil into your scalp to help it penetrate, grow and circulate better.
It’s best to refresh the scalp once in a while to get rid of any dust or dandruff that may have accumulated.
Once every 10 days, preferably with an anti-dandruff shampoo or a clarifying shampoo, avoiding washing with the head down, as the weight of the water and long braids pull on the roots. Or in a spray bottle of water, mix with a dose of shampoo, spray onto the scalp, massage gently then rinse. There’s nothing to stop you washing your hair more often.
Conditioner is not necessary.
If you want to apply a mask, use one with a fluid texture that can be applied to braids with or without additions, or to any other hairstyle. A fluid texture is easy to rinse off.
Ideally, you should keep your braids for a maximum of 4 to 6 weeks. Hairstyles without additions should be kept for 15 days, after which time you’ll notice that they won’t look as pretty.
TIPS:
In the evening, massage a small amount of castor oil into the hairline, from temple to temple. Castor oil will strengthen small hairs, preventing breakage and hair loss.
Revive your hairstyles by adding shine with jojoba or monoi oil on the lengths.
